::: The VET Program :::

The work of photographers in the visual arts includes traditional and contemporary forms. Through their work they explore and generate shared ideas, beliefs and personal feelings. Photographers record both events and experiences and present a diverse array of concepts and opinions.

The study of photography as an art form provides students with the opportunity to develop their creativity and imagination. Photography also encourages the key competencies (SACSA) of problem solving, using technology, working with others, communicating ideas and information (visually, using text and verbally), and the collecting, analysing and organising of information for both the visual and written forms.

The VET Program consists of students participating in "Introduction to Photography" (TCD259) and "Camera (Creative Photography)" (CAM) in one semester of study. On completion of their VET studies students are eligible to continue studying photography through the CCP and complete the Certificate IV in Photoimaging.

The VET Photography modules offered at the CCP run for a duration of 10 weeks. The courses run 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm on Fridays and Tuesdays 4.15pm to 7.15pm. Other days will be available subject to numbers. See the timetable for details of which module is running in which time slot. Note that the timetable is updated mid term to show information for the following term. VET classes start and finish one week later than regular classes.

The CCP also offers the Certificate 1 in Media (CUF10101) to VET students. This course is designed to introduce students to the operation of cameras, editing and electronic media. The emphasis of the course is on real world skills. The course can be adjusted and modified to a number of different outcomes and expectation, mainly based around the operations of video cameras.

::: Intended participants :::

The intended participants for the VET program are students from Senior Secondary schools and colleges.

::: Mission statement of the CCP :::

The CCP is a private educational institution devoted to promoting the highest level of photographic art practice. It is committed to helping people explore their career options and to mastering their craft, while developing their artistic talents in search of their career regardless of a person's sex, sexuality, marital status, race, physical disability, age or Intellectual disability.

::: Delivery Pathways & SACE :::

Introduction to Photography & Camera (Creative Photography):
There are two delivery options available to students wishing to undertake the VET Program modules -either Introduction to Photography or Camera (Creative Photography).

Schools with an existing darkroom may deliver the module(s) as part of their curriculum. A workbook created by the CCP is available for the teacher and students to use to complete the module.

The CCP offers both modules with a CCP lecturer delivering the course. Students, from various schools, would be expected to attend the CCP during school hours on the nominated day and time. These sessions (morning or afternoon) are for three hours with extra time for darkroom use available.

Completion of the one module equals 70 nominal hours for Introduction to Photography and 75 nominal hours for Camera (Creative Photography) and will fulfil the requirements of SSABSA for 1 unit of SACE (stand-alone) subject.

Certificate 1 in Media:
The Certificate 1 in Media has total nominal hours of 118 and as a standalone course counts as 2 SACE units. This unit must be undertaken at The CCP. Students will be attending for one day per week for 9 weeks. All classes are held on campus from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Classes comprise 2hrs theory then 4hrs practical sessions. There is a quota of 14 students per group.

::: Teaching Approach :::

The duration for each module is 3 hours each week (6 hours per week for the Cert 1 in Media) for 9 weeks (1 term). Courses are held on site at the CCP unless otherwise negotiated. The courses are structured to meet the training needs of individual students. A number of teaching methods are utilised including:

  • Demonstrations
  • Assignments
  • Lectures and presentations
  • Films and videos
  • Analysis of photographic works
  • Excursion(s)
  • Journal writing
  • Self evaluation
  • Studio / Darkroom practice
  • Extra Studio / Darkroom time

*NB. Advice with the development of portfolios for entrance to art school or personal use will be given on an individual basis, if requested.

::: Assessment :::

Introduction to Photography & Camera (Creative Photography):
Competency-based assessments will be conducted as part of participating in each module with requirements outlined for students at the beginning of the course. The learning outcomes have been developed to meet competency standards set by the industry.

On completion of each module students will receive a "Statement of Attainment".
