The CCP offers the Certificate IV in Photoimaging and the Diploma in Photoimaging as well as a VET in Schools (Vocational Education and Training) for high school students. Details of the VET program are on this page. Students are also able to take individual subjects without the awards if they desire. The training is nationally accredited.

The Certificate IV in Photoimaging and the Diploma in Photoimaging are nationally recognised awards. The nationally recognised competencies in these awards are transferable between any other organisations (such as TAFE), which also offers the Certificate IV and/or Diploma in Photoimaging.

::: Certificate IV in Photoimaging :::

Certificate IV comprises the following subjects and could be completed in 12 months (the term by term breakdown is a suggestion only);
Term 1: Introduction to Photography,
Term 2: Darkroom Portfolio 1, Camera Portfolio 1, Introduction to the Studio
Terms 3 & 4: Photographic Design, Camera Portfolio 2, plus two elective subjects from the list offered depending upon the student's desired learning outcome; Visual Art or Commercial Photography for example. The electives currently comprise; Concepts 1, Darkroom 2A, Alternative Presentation, Colour 1, Concepts 2, Portraiture 1A, Introduction to Digital Imaging, Photography for Exhibition and Commercial Photography 1A.

The Certificate IV course is 324 contact hours in length with a nominal duration of 432 hours.

The course is available on a part-time or full-time basis. All applicants should budget at least 50%+ more time quoted to adequately complete their studies. This is in order to complete the practical nature of the assignments set.

On completion of the Certificate IV, graduates may choose to establish themselves either in the visual arts or commercial photographic industry. This may be by association with art galleries, design studios, and framers or as studio/production assistants. Opportunities exist in other allied art fields such as theatre or film.

::: Diploma in Photoimaging :::

Candidates may enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at Diploma level, including (but not restricted to):

  • Successful achievement of a Certificate IV qualification in photoimaging or equivalent, such as:
    • CUV40403 (link opens in new window) Certificate IV in Photoimaging
    • CUV40103 (link opens in new window) Certificate IV in Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft (ensuring at least eight of the required 14 electives have been drawn from the photoimaging stream)
  • extensive vocational experience (paid/voluntary) as a photographer's assistant
  • extensive vocational experience in photoimaging practice
  • providing evidence of sustained interest and aptitude in photography.

The Diploma comprises the following subjects and could be completed within 24 months (assuming 12 months to complete the Certificate IV).

Required units: Introduction to Digital Imaging*, Camera Portfolio 3, Photographic Concepts 1*
Elective units: Four elective subjects from the list offered depending upon the student's desired learning outcome; Visual Art or Commercial Photography for example. ::: Individual subjects :::

Applicants are welcome to apply to the CCP for individual subjects without the award for:

  • Personal interest
  • In-service education
  • Portfolio development

In this case, an assessment will not be required, however if a student chooses to be assessed, then a Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the subject.
